Ankle sprains
Although often associated with women in high-heeled shoes, ankle sprains are a common ailment of all sorts of athelets. About 250,000 people get them everyday.

Arthritic Foot and Ankle Care
Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of your joints. It can cause pain and stiffness in any joint in the body and is common in the small joints of the foot and ankle.

Athletes Foot
Athlete's foot is a rash on the skin of the foot. It is the most common fungal skin infection. There are three main types of athlete's foot. Each type affects different parts of the foot.

Bunions
A bunion is an unnatural, bony hump that forms at the base of the big toe where it attaches to the foot. Often, the big toe deviates toward the other toes. These can be very painful to walk on and cause further damage.

Calluses
Calluses can develop on the hands, feet, or anywhere there is repeated friction - even on a violinist's chin. Calluses have several variants and commonly occur where there has been a lot of rubbing or friction.

Corns
Corns generally occur on the tops and sides of the toes. Some corns can develop from an improper walking motion, but are mostly caused by ill-fitting shoes such as wearing high-heels or wearing sandals or shoes without socks.

Diabetic Foot
People with diabetes can develop many different foot problems. Even ordinary problems can get worse and lead to even more serious complications including neuropathy, ulcers and necessary amputation.

Flat Feet
Tendons, the tight bands that attach at the heel and foot bones, form the arch. Flat feet is where there is little to no arch. This is classified as flat feet or fallen arches. There are several ways that you can test yourself for flat feet.

fungus toenails
A fungal nail infection occurs when a fungus attacks the toenail or under the skin under the nail, called the nail bed. Fungi can attach your nails through small cuts in the skin around your nail or through the opening between your nails.

geriatric foot care
Good foot health is especially important for senior citizens. The longer your feet stay healthy, the longer you can maintain an active lifestyle. There are five principles that you can follow to maintain healthy feet.

hammertoes
Hammertoe is a contracture (bending) of one or both joints of the second, third, fourth, or fifth toes. This abnormal bending can put pressure on the toe when wearing shoes, causing problems to develop.

heel spurs
A heel spur is a calcium deposit causing a bony protrusion on the underside of the heel bone. On an X-ray, a heel spur can extend forward by as much as a half-inch. Although heel spurs are often painless, they can cause heel pain.

infections
Foot infections can be difficult problems for physicians to treat because of the biomechanical complexities of the extremity and the underlying circumstances that cause the infections.

ingrown toenails
An ingrown toenail is caused by the pressure from the ingrowth of the nail edge into the skin of the toe. Once the edge of the nail breaks through the skin, it produces inflammation of the toe and can also cause infections and pain.

injuries
Each of your feet have 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 tendons, muscles, and ligaments. It is no wonder that there are a lot of things that can go wrong with your feet. Some common problems are sprains, broken bones, torn ligaments or fractures.

metatarsalgia
With metatarsalgia the ball of your foot can become painful and inflamed. This can happen if you participate in activities that involve running and jumping. You can also develop it from wearing ill-fitting shoes.

neuromas
A neuroma is a painful condition, also referred to as a "pinched nerve" or a nerve tumor. It is a benign growth of nerve tissue frequently found between the third and fourth toes. The main symptom is pain between the toes while walking.

plantar fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common cause of heel pain. It involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes.

poor circulation
Circulation delivers life-supporting blood throughout your body. When natural blood flow isn't working properly, it can lead to symptoms that initially appear in the feet and legs. Poor circulation is often a sign of other health issues.

warts
Plantar warts are common, especially in children. These warts usually appear on the bottom of the foot. Virtually everyone will have a wart (or several) someplace at some time in their lives. Plantar warts are generally harmless but can cause irritation.

wounds
Wounds always hurt, but the degree of pain will vary according to the nature and severity of the injury. Burns are painful, as are many blisters, cuts and scrapes. While a puncture wound may hurt less, it could potentially be more serious if left untreated.
